10TH GRADE
Welcome to Game Design 1-2. This course is designed for students who want to learn more about computer science through the process of how a video game is conceived, how it is put together, and how it is published. Students will be introduced to the game design process, elements of game play, creating game documentation, and scripting (with the C# programming language). Students are also introduced to industry leading software (the latest version of the Unity Game Engine software) where they will develop numerous aspects of their games including building environments, creating graphical user interfaces, working with physics, working with cameras, and inserting/editing lighting into the scene. As the end of the course, teams of students will take on the roles of game designers, creative directors, graphic designers, and game testers in planning, assembling, and marketing a video game using the tools learned throughout the year. This course is designed to align with the California CTE standards for both Arts, Media, Entertainment and Information and Communications Technology industry sectors (there is a Game Design pathway/standards listed in both of these sectors). It should also be noted that much of this course has been adopted from the Unity3D Curricular Framework, a comprehensive curriculum and guide for educational institutions to begin incorporating rigorous programs that teach the art of Game Design
